I apologize to everyone in advance for the forthcoming rant- you are, of course, under no obligation to read it if you don’t want to. It’s just been one of those days and I need to vent somewhere.

Whoever turned weddings into this huge, corporate extravaganza from hell (I’m looking at you Disney) needs to be tortured and killed…or something to that extent anyways. All I am trying to do is have a nice, fun little ceremony to state the obvious of ‘hey, I’m in a long-term relationship.’ Is this in any way possible? Of course not.

Admittedly, I have never been a big fan of weddings. They’re just not my thing and I never saw myself particularly involved in one. But, since relationships are built on compromise, when my partner of several years decided that a formal, legal wedding was something that was really, really important, I figured ‘what the hell.’ I, my dear friends, was an idiot.

You have to find and book an officiant and a place to hold the ceremony and order invitations and figure out who gets those invitations and that’s just the easy part! There’s cake and reception and whatever you’re wearing, which, if you’re like me and can’t stand white has to be improvised/made yourself. The whole thing just explodes into this big ball of complication and stress that I think is ridiculous.

When and how did this even happen? And how does anyone get through this without pulling their hair out?! And why does everyone buy into this?

*Sigh* The things we do for the people we love…
